If you want me back in your life you must argue your case in my jurisdiction under my rules of evidence." But in five years he provided me almost no proof he even read what I wrote.

This was the single most important thing for me to start understanding re: my undiagnosed ADHD, and it's the thing no one tells you except other ADHD sufferers. My brain's reward system is so broken that boredom rapidly becomes indistinguishable from a depressive episode. There's no healthy, normal ability to experience something as simply being a little dull--as soon as my brain isn't getting regular hits of stimulation, I start clawing at the walls. This is what makes working in a structured environment and initiating tasks so difficult for me, not malice or other character flaws.

What makes it worse is that, if you're like me, when you were growing up, the only way your authority figures knew how to perceive this was "they're just goofing off," and therefore, would deprive you of anything remotely stimulating until you'd done your work, thinking that -- if it worked like it would with an NT kid, you'd do your work faster so you could get back to having fun.

Instead, they just pulled the plug on any tiny bit of power you had running to your necessary brainwaves and put you into longterm shutdown mode.

But then....you grew up...with only that method for coping ingrained into you. So no matter how much you may know logically, now, that you have to have the "fun/interesting/challenging" cord plugged in for your brain to have any juice at all, you feel guilty for having to plug that in FIRST instead of as a reward for doing Adulting. So you just sit there, unplugged, not getting anything done.

Or maybe that's just me.

even the most supportive and well meaning people in my life struggle to understand how painful lack of stimulation is, how immobilizing executive dysfunction is, and how i cannot feel satisfaction the way they do. the number of times i’ve been told “won’t it feel so nice to accomplish it and have it off your plate?” and having to explain that i don’t feel relief or pride when i finish a task, just exhaustion, and that’s part of why it’s so hard to even start it

yeah, masc and fem nonbinary people exist, but literally a big part of being nonbinary is not wanting to be put into a gender binary, which is exactly what you're doing.

you're only being inclusive of the people who at least have some proximity to the binary, of the nonbinary people who make you feel the least uncomfortable.

it's literally exorsexist trans ally logic: "you can identify as whatever you want, as long as it's within the binary". this is how many people are only allies to binary trans people and not nonbinary people and apparently it's also how people are allies to masc and fem nonbinary people but not to the rest of us.

you're literally just saying "i can't call you male/female so i call you masc/fem instead, regardless of your actual identity". and changing it to "masc-identified" or "fem-identified" doesn't make it any better because a) masc people are masc and fem people are fem and b) did you know that there are more than two gender qualities/expressions? did you know there's more than two ways to be nonbinary?

no matter how much mental gymnastics you do to justify your shitty binary language, masc and fem in any variations will never include me. neither will androgyny and neutrality for that matter, but those are barely forced upon people the way masculinity and femininity are.

i wish we'd finally call it what it is: another gender binary. masc vs. fem isn't less binary than male vs. female, it's not binary lite, it's not less bad. it's literally just another gender binary. it's just as fucking violent.

and before anyone has a go at me for supposedly hating masc and fem nonbinary people because i speak out against the masc/fem binary, no i fucking don't, i simply hate the idea that those are the only two options and everyone has to be either one or the other. i'd be happy with masculinity and femininity existing along all the other options. you all can literally still exist without there being a binary. stop using binary people logic against other nonbinary people.
